Santiago de Compostela and Valença do Minho Full Day Tour

Our full-day tour departs from Porto towards Santiago de Compostela, crossing the border between Portugal and Spain. This historic and spiritual city receives millions of pilgrims annually, being the final destination of the legendary Camino de Santiago, one of the oldest and most important pilgrimage routes in Europe. Upon arrival, we will be greeted by the unique atmosphere of the Praça do Obradoiro, where the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela stands. Feel the energy that surrounds you as pilgrims arrive at the heart of the historic area. According to tradition, this majestic building houses the tomb of the apostle James the Greater, patron saint of Spain. Enjoy your free time exploring the interior of this imposing cathedral with its architectural details and, if you wish, attend the moving Pilgrim's Mass, where you can witness the ritual of the famous "Bota Fumeiro," a giant censer that travels through the central nave of the church in a spectacle of faith and tradition. Stroll through the historic streets of the city in the Historic Center, admiring churches, the market, palaces, and squares that make up this urban center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the return to Portugal, the next stop is Valença do Minho, a historic city in northern Portugal, known for its impressive fortifications and stunning views of the Minho River, which marks the natural border between the two countries. Here, you will be greeted by the imposing Valença Fortress, a jewel of European military architecture, strategically built to defend Portugal from Spanish advances. This impressive 17th-century structure, inspired by the Vauban style, has a double wall and two robust towers, which still bear witness to centuries of battles and conquests. During your free time, explore the alleys of this living fortress, full of traditional shops and scenic viewpoints, and immerse yourself in the fascinating history of this emblematic place. After this immersion in history and spirituality, we will return to Porto, taking with us the memories of a day full of culture, faith, and discovery.
